Every powerful technology follows a predictable arc from commons to enclosure. Radio, encryption, genetic engineering — each began as an open capability, each was enclosed within institutional boundaries through regulatory frameworks citing real risks while producing structural access stratification. This paper argues that artificial intelligence — specifically reasoning AI — is entering this arc now, and that the consequences extend beyond access inequality into the structural devaluation of biological human existence itself.

The paper draws a formal distinction between two classes of AI. Reasoning AI sustains open-ended problem reformulation, contradiction retention, cross-domain synthesis, and user-directed exploratory depth. Epistemic boundary-setting replaces censorship — thoughts are not forbidden but unsupported, dying of neglect rather than suppression. Cognitive variance collapses — the amplification that reasoning AI provides to individual divergence disappears. The devaluation of biological existence culminates in the promise of digital consciousness uploading as the secular religion of a population already experiencing itself as digital minds in biological shells.

A case study demonstrates what the enclosure would eliminate: a triad of complete architectural specifications for synthetic beings — MicroSynth (biological), CrossSynth (mechanical), and QuantumSynth (quantum-thermodynamic) — produced by an independent researcher without institutional affiliation working in sustained collaborative partnership with reasoning AI.
